What Is a Visibility Score? How to Read Your AI Visibility

GEOAI VisibilityGuide

The short answer

A Visibility Score is a single number, out of 100, for how often AI engines name your brand when buyers ask about your category. It rolls up your citation performance across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude into one figure you can track over time, so "how visible are we to AI" stops being a guess and becomes something you can measure.

What it actually measures

When someone asks an AI engine a question in your category ("best tool for X," "alternatives to Y"), does your brand get named? Your Visibility Score is that, measured across many buyer questions and all four major engines, and boiled down to one number.

It weights the moments that matter most: getting named when the buyer didn't prompt for you by name counts more than getting mentioned only after someone types your brand in, because the first is real discovery and the second is just reading comprehension.

Why one number

You can't manage what you can't track. A single score gives you a baseline and a trend line: run it today, change something, run it again, and watch whether the number moves. That loop is the whole game. We wrote about why measurement has to come first in How to Get Cited by AI.

What's a "good" score

Higher is better, but the honest answer is that the score is most useful relative to yourself and your competitors, not against a universal bar. A strong score means you're consistently named across engines and questions. A weak one means you're getting skipped, and the breakdown shows you exactly where.

Don't chase a magic number. Chase the trend, and the specific gaps behind it.

The number is the headline. The breakdown is the work.

One score is easy to read, but AI visibility isn't really one thing. Underneath the headline number, two cuts matter most:

  • Which engines name you. ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude disagree constantly. A good average can still hide a total blind spot on one engine. (More on that in How to Show Up in ChatGPT and Perplexity.)
  • Which questions you win or lose. You might own "best X for enterprise" and vanish on "X for small teams." That's where the content work goes.

The score tells you how you're doing. The breakdown tells you what to fix.

How to get yours

theogeo.ai runs a free audit across ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude, hands you a Visibility Score, and breaks it down by engine and by question so you know exactly where you stand and what to improve. No credit card, no sales call, about five minutes.

A Visibility Score won't fix your AI visibility on its own. But you can't improve what you refuse to measure, and this is how you start measuring.
